Well, my drinking environment was on a futon, so if anything my bum should have been aching and not my left arm. In fact, my left arm leads a real boring life. I was talking to my mom about this, since she’s a nurse, and she suggested keeping a note of what I drink if I go out and see if it’s not something specific. You're right to be concerned about air inside an open submerged container. Air is compressible fluid and will lose volume as the water pressure increases. But I expect an even larger problem to your idea is the amount of force required to submerge an open air filled bucket to a depth of say 12 ft.
For instance, say the bucket has a diameter of 14" (in order to accommodate anyone's head size).
That means the open area of the bucket = π(14)²/4 = 154 in².
The water pressure at 12 ft is:
estimate that 14.7 psi or 1 atm = 34 ft of water. (12/34)(14.7) = 5.2 psi
The force reqd. to submerge bucket to a depth of 12 ft = (5.2)(154) = 799 lbs <=
To me this seems like a formidable problem: weighting a small bucket to this extent.

I think the cat is going to try and bite them off since its claws retract. Even though they may be thin they will probably feel super annoying inside their toes.
Have you tried those cardboard scratch boxes? If you sprinkle them with catnip it will encourage your cat to sharpen his claws there, instead of the furniture.

In a bucket put HOT water and amonia. Mean Green sold at walmart or Dollar General. Spray mean green on effected area let soak for about 5 min. Use the rough side of a sponge and scrub. All of the combination will cut through the wax build-up and get to the dirt. You can also use Bar Keeper's Friend. Buy it at the same places. Scrub with the other cleaners. You should see great results.
